Mastering Personal Growth: Understanding Beliefs vs. Core Beliefs

Today, we're diving into a topic that's near and dear to my heart: beliefs vs. core beliefs. Have you ever wondered why some changes seem easy while others feel like an uphill battle? It comes down to the beliefs we hold—both on the surface and deep within our subconscious. So, grab a drink of choice, get cozy, and let's explore how understanding this distinction can unlock your full potential.

Beliefs vs. Core Beliefs: Understanding the Difference

Beliefs are the ideas we hold about the world and ourselves. They’re the thousands of thoughts that float around in our heads all day long - think of them like the leaves on a tree. The ideas we hold about ourselves, others, and the world around us. For example, you might believe that you're a good writer or that you're terrible at math. These beliefs influence how we perceive and interact with the world.

Core beliefs, on the other hand, are the beliefs that run deep - think of them like the roots of a tree. They're often formed in childhood and shape our fundamental sense of Self. Core beliefs can be things like "I'm worthy of love" or "I'm not good enough." These beliefs aren't always conscious, but they have a powerful influence on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Examples of Beliefs vs. Core Beliefs:

Let's look at some examples to make this concept a bit clearer. Imagine you have a belief that you're not good at public speaking. That's a surface-level belief. But if you dig a little deeper, you might uncover a core belief that says you're not worthy of attention or that you'll embarrass yourself if you speak up. See the difference?

Here's another example. Let's say you believe that you'll never find true love. That's a belief that's floating around in your conscious mind. But underneath that belief might be a core belief that says you're unlovable or that you don't deserve happiness. It's these core beliefs that really shape our experiences and hold us back from reaching our full potential.

Tools For Shifting Beliefs:

Now that we understand the difference between beliefs and core beliefs, let’s talk about what we can do about it. The good news is we’re not stuck with either forever. With a little bit of awareness and effort, we can start to shift them and create a new reality for ourselves.

There are many tools and techniques we can use, but today we're going to focus on three of my favorites: affirmations, journaling, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), also known as tapping.

Shifting Beliefs with Affirmations: Affirmations are powerful statements that we repeat to ourselves to reinforce positive beliefs. They're like little reminders that help us stay focused on our goals and aspirations. For example, if you're working on building self-confidence, you might repeat affirmations like "I am worthy" or "I believe in myself."

Journaling for Clarity and Insight: Journaling is another fantastic tool for shifting beliefs. By putting pen to paper and allowing our thoughts to flow freely, we can gain clarity and insight into our beliefs and thought patterns. Try writing about your beliefs on a particular topic, and then challenge yourself to find evidence that supports a more empowering belief.

Tapping into the Power of EFT: EFT, or tapping, is a technique that combines elements of acupressure and psychology to release negative emotions and beliefs. By tapping on specific meridian points on the body while repeating affirmations, we can clear energetic blockages and reprogram our subconscious mind. It may sound a little out there, but trust me, it is powerful!

Rewriting Core Beliefs:

Rewriting core beliefs takes a little more finesse. In my two decades of doing this work, I have found guided meditations to be the most gentle and effective. Meditation is like the Swiss Army knife of personal growth—it has countless benefits and can be tailored to suit your specific needs. When it comes to shifting core beliefs, meditation is especially powerful because it allows us to access the subconscious mind and rewrite the narratives, at the level of mind they were created, to create permanent changes.

Accessing Alpha Brainwaves for Rapid Transformation:

So, how does meditation work its magic? It comes down to alpha brainwaves. When we meditate, we enter a state of deep relaxation where our brainwaves slow down and become more synchronized. This allows us to access the alpha state, where our subconscious mind is more accessible and receptive to change.

It is here we can uncover the core beliefs, that are limiting our progress. There is often inner resistance to rewriting these narratives - they are the foundation of who we think we are. So the trick is to mitigate the resistance. It is helpful to have a skilled Guide, lead you through the intricate process of shifting core beliefs. They can ensure you stay grounded in the alpha state, even amidst resistance. With their support, you can rewrite your inner narratives with grace and ease, paving the way for personal evolution.

Shifting beliefs and core beliefs is a powerful process that can lead to profound transformation. Whether you're using affirmations, journaling, tapping, or meditation, the key is to approach the process with openness, curiosity, and compassion. By going within and accessing the subconscious state, we can uncover core beliefs and rewrite the narratives that shape our reality. So, keep exploring, keep experimenting, and remember that the power to change your life lies within you.
